700psi Fuel Injection.
Heart-Pounding Hole Shot. Blistering Speed. Yamaha's introduction of
High Pressure Direct Injection wasn't a matter of one-upmanship. While
other outboard manufacturers were adapting direct fuel injection
systems, we were simply doing what we always do. We were coming with
something better. An entirely new dimension in marine fuel injection.
We started with a totally new 2.6-liter, 76° V-block design. Yamaha
engineers found a way to pull more power out of a narrower engine
profile, while maintaining our standards for reliable performance. And
when it came to fuel delivery, we took the high road, injecting fuel at
an unheard-of 700psi, versus the meager 80-450psi of conventional Direct
Injection systems. This ensures complete, consistent fuel atomization
throughout the entire rpm range - especially the crucial 2500-5500
range, where most engine operation occurs. That's not all. Other systems
use injectors that protrude into the combustion chamber and could impede
the fuel pattern. Yamaha HPDIs use unique internal-opening injectors
that improve fuel distribution and reduce the chance of
performance-hampering carbon build-up.
The leap in performance is startling. But it's the added range and fuel
economy that will really get you going. An increase of 10% over
conventional DI systems, and 20% over carbureted outboards. Which goes
to prove just how much you can accomplish when you put on the pressure.
